Chief Executive

M. Patricia ("Patti") Towler, BA, JD, LLM, CIC.C
President & CEO, Chief Legal Officer


Patti Towler was appointed President and CEO of CPA Nova Scotia in September, 2015. She began her career at Stewart McKelvey in Halifax, and continued to practice law at a major Vancouver firm after relocating there in 1996. For the past decade, she has held executive roles in the post-secondary sector and is experienced in change management, marketing, and organizational leadership. She holds degrees in international law (University of San Diego), applied ethics (Regent College) and political science (King's College) as well as being a graduate of the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie. She is also a trained mediator, published author, and is in demand as a public speaker on issues of leadership and management. Patti is delighted to be back in Nova Scotia, and to have the opportunity to contribute to the accounting profession at a time of significant change and transformation.

Carolyn Gaskin
Executive Assistant

Carolyn Gaskin is the Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer and secretary to the Board of Directors. She keeps the senior leadership team organized, and plays a key role in the smooth operation of CPA Nova Scotia. Outside of work, Carolyn loves travel, especially to warmer climes, and can be spotted around Halifax riding her sapphire blue Vespa.

Regulatory Services

Anne Robinson, CPA, CA, BComm
Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs and Registrar

As the Senior Director Regulatory Affairs and Registrar, Anne leads CPA Nova Scotia's efforts to protect the public interest and integrity of the profession. CPA Nova Scotia sets and enforces high professional standards through ongoing professional education, support, practice inspections, and delivery of a robust complaints and discipline process. The Registrar is also responsible for maintaining a public registry of members, and certifying those engaged in public accounting.

Prior to joining CPA Nova Scotia, Anne spent 11 years working for the Province of Nova Scotia in various departments, most recently with Business Nova Scotia. She began her career with Ernst & Young and spent time in their Halifax, Calgary and Washington D.C. offices. Outside of work, Anne keeps busy with her family as a mother of three, and is actively involved in her community.

Carol Barr, CPA, CA
Director of Professional Conduct

Carol Barr is the Director of Professional Conduct and is responsible for administering the complaint and discipline process.

Prior to joining CPA Nova Scotia, Carol was a partner at BDO Canada LLP.  She began her professional accounting career at Ernst & Young, then moved into industry as a VP Finance for a number of years before returning to public practice.  Outside of work, Carol keeps busy biking, gardening and enjoying other outdoor activities.

Wenda Bennett, CPA, CA, BComm
Director of Professional Standards

Wenda Bennett is Director of Professional Standards and is responsible for administering the practice inspection program (professional standards review), professional liability insurance, and advisory services dealing with inquiries from members, as well as staff liaison for the Practitioners Committee and the Accounting Education Foundation of Nova Scotia. Wenda also represents CPA Nova Scotia on CPA Canada's Practice Inspection Program and Public Practice Advisory Services Committees and was a member of the Public Accounting Regulatory Working Group.

Wenda previously worked in a similar role with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia, and prior to that was in public practice with a national firm. Outside of work, Wenda keeps active gardening and hiking.

Danielle Roode
Associate Registrar

Danielle comes to us from the CA legacy body where she served as the Membership Registrar for last six years. At CPA Nova Scotia, she is responsible for the membership register and member database, as well as the registration and renewal process for members. She handles firm registrations and renewals, professional development reporting and deficiencies, and works closely with both the Registration and Professional Development Committees. Contact Danielle for information on membership status, membership applications, firm registration/renewals, and mandatory PD.

Outside of work, Danielle enjoys kayaking, hiking with her dog, playing guitar and singing.

Lori McGuire
Regulatory Coordinator

As the Regulatory Coordinator for CPA Nova Scotia, Lori supports and coordinates the registration and public accounting certification processes. She provides support to the Regulatory group, which includes the Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs and Registrar, and the Associate Registrar. 

Outside of work, Lori enjoys relaxing outdoors, going to the beach, and spending time with her family and pets. 

Member Services

Kathie Slaunwhite
Director of Professional Development

Kathie Slaunwhite serves as Director of Professional Development, and has an extensive background in the provision of professional development for accountants, having formerly been Director of Professional Development for the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Kathie works closely with members and instructors to ensure CPA Nova Scotia offers relevant, accessible and affordable educational opportunities. Kathie is also involved in special event planning and management with CPA Nova Scotia.

In addition to her work duties, Kathie is a proud grandmother of the human and canine kinds, an avid walker and a lover of family game nights.

Cindy Mombourquette
Member Services Co-ordinator

If you have visited the CPA Nova Scotia offices, you have likely been greeted by Cindy and felt a warm welcome as a result. As the member Services Co-ordinator, she organizes and arranges reproduction of all Professional Development course materials, assists instructors and participants during class time, supports event management, and is the contact person for general and vendor inquiries.

Cindy joined CPA Nova Scotia after working with the Institute of Chartered Accountants for 18 years. Time spent dancing, gardening, and especially with her husband, children and grandchildren are among Cindy's favourite activities.

Juanita Onochie
Member Services Co-ordinator

 As a Member Services Coordinator, Juanita is responsible for organizing professional development programs and special events. Juanita also assists Kathie and Cindy in dealing with any inquires and other administrative duties related to CPA Nova Scotia members, instructors, and courses. Juanita joins the CPANS family with her professional background in Corporate Communications and Public Relations.

Outside of work, Juanita enjoys spending time with friends/family, quiet time reading  or watching old movies /food network.


Finance & Administration

Rodney Rodenhiser, CPA, CMA, BComm
Director, Finance & Administration

Rodney manages the day to day operations of CPA Nova Scotia, responsible for establishing and maintaining the organization's financial structure, including budgeting, billings, financial reporting and payroll. He also oversees CPA Nova Scotia's technological infrastructure, facilities, and human resource functions.

Prior to joining CPA Nova Scotia, he held a series of roles with CMA Nova Scotia, most recently as CEO. A husband and a father of two very active boys, Rodney can be found in various hockey rinks throughout the year or on the lakes fishing with his sons. 

Cayla Duggan 
Accounting Assistant

Cayla is responsible for keeping financial records updated, preparing reports and reconciling accounts. She also processes Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, including Member dues and Professional Development payments. 

Cayla is currently attending Mount Saint Vincent University so she can pursue the CPA Designation. When she is not studying, Cayla enjoys travelling and is happiest near the ocean. 


Jessica Gillis, BPR, MA
Director of Communications

As the Director of Communications, Jessica is responsible for the strategic communications planning including, member communication, general public information and brand development for CPA Nova Scotia in keeping with CPA Canada Brand Standards. 

Jessica has her degree in public relations and Master of Arts, Communication from Mount Saint Vincent University. Outside of work, Jessica enjoys spending time with her family and can usually be found in a Zumba class.
