Volunteer Board Member (Treasurer)

Our Mission Chisholm Services for Children provides care for children who have complex needs by providing a safe environment while fostering a sense of personal value, self-worth and the development of life skills. 

Our Vision Chisholm Services for Children is a leader in Nova Scotia in providing safe, community-based care for children 12 years of age and younger.  Our therapeutic residential and non-residential programs successfully support children to transition into their community. 
As a volunteer board member with Chisholm Services for Children, your time will be spent working with a diverse group of board members who work together to deliver on the organization mission and vision. The role requires review, input and approval of the organization’s strategic direction, annual operational plan and budget, key financial transactions, organizational policies and best practices for a not-for-profit board. 
As the Treasure of the Board, you will bring your financial background expertise to provide direction and oversight of the financial activities of the organization.  Working with the support of the Bookkeeper/Payroll Clerk and the Executive Director, the Treasure will be responsible to the presentation and interpretation of income statements, balance sheets, cash flow and financial projections to the Board.  The Treasurer will also participate as required during the annual audit which is carried out by an external firm. 
The Treasure will also be responsible to chair the Finance Committee which meets approximately every 4-6 weeks as well as act as a member of the Executive Committee which meets if required outside of regularly scheduled Board Meetings. 
Role Commitments

  • 10 to 12 hours per month for board and committee meetings.
  • Act as a representative of the organization (no conflict of interest exists).
  • Term is 3 years and can be extended for a second term of 3 years. 

Competency Considerations

  • Business or professional experience in accounting and financial management.
  • Previous board experience and community involvement considered an asset.
  • Demonstration of high ethical standards and integrity a must. 

Board Meetings: AGM June 20th, 2017 (4:00 – 6:00 PM)    
Wednesdays 4:30 – 6:30 PM.  (Sept 27th, 2017; Nov 29th, 2017; Jan 31st, 2018; March 28th, 2018; May 30th, 2018)
