CPA Nova Scotia honours eight CPAs for their contributions to the profession and community

Halifax, NS, August 11, 2021 – Chartered Professional Accountants of Nova Scotia (CPA Nova Scotia) is pleased to announce that six of the province's CPAs have been awarded the profession's highest mark of distinction, the Fellow (FCPA) designation.

The Fellow designation is an honorary designation awarded to Chartered Professional Accountants whose achievements in their careers or contributions to the community, and the profession are significant and noteworthy.

CPA Nova Scotia has also awarded two CPAs with the Unsung Hero Award and the Early Achievement Award.

The Unsung Hero Award is given to a CPA who demonstrates dedication, commitment and outstanding service to individuals or groups within the community through volunteer activities.  It is intended to recognize service behind the scenes at the community level.

The Early Achievement Award is given to a CPA who demonstrates achievement and an ongoing commitment to professional excellence or community involvement within the first ten years of becoming a CPA.

The recipients for the Fellow designation are (in alphabetical order):

  • Paul Comeau, CPA, CA (Retired, Grant Thornton)
  • Monica Foster, CPA, CMA (VP, College Services & CFO, NSCC)
  • Allan Horsburgh, CPA, CA (CFO, The Shaw Group Ltd.)
  • Robert Hunt, CPA, CA, (Managing Partner, Consumer Insolvency Business Unit, Grant Thornton)
  • Labi Kousoulis, CPA, CMA ( Minister of Inclusive Economic Growth, Government of Nova Scotia)
  • Jacklyn Mercer, CPA, CA (Partner, Deloitte, LLP)


The recipient of the Unsung Hero Award is:

  • Jerred Stephenson, CPA, CA (Senior Manager, MNP, LLP)


The recipient of the Early Achievement Award is:

  • John Yuan, CPA, CGA (CFO & Chief Investment Officer, GEM Health Care Group)
