This is an Ethics Workshop that encompasses ethics and ethical decision-making, requirements of our Professional Code of Conduct and fraud and its impact including indicators of fraud and steps to take when fraud comes to light. Ethics is a fundamental pillar of the profession and an underlying theme to everything we do. Chartered Professional Accountants are known for integrity and reliability and a strong practitioner is valued by their clients. It is critical to protect that reputation. The topics covered in the workshop will help the practitioners be better equipped to do just that.
Understanding ethics and its impact is essential to being in public practice. It is critical to not only comprehend ethics and what it means, but also how to apply it in the decision-making process. This workshop reviews various ethical decision-making frameworks and how they can be put into use.
Key in running a strong firm and dealing with clients is being familiar with the Code of Professional Conduct. Along with reviewing key concepts in the Code, the workshop will also assist practitioners to recognize potential independence threats and to implement appropriate safeguards.
Practitioners can encounter fraud as it is much more common than one might think. When fraud comes to light, it is not always clear what next steps should be taken to address the situation and what is required to issue the right report in the circumstances. The workshop will help practitioners identify fraud indicators and plan actions to implement when it is encountered. Building professional skepticism into engagements will also be discussed as this is helpful in addressing the risk of fraud.
Finally, ethics is an underlying foundation to corporate culture. The course explores the link between ethics and corporate culture and offers ideas on how to build a strong corporate culture.
