Board Treasurer 


Overview
  • This is a volunteer role 
  • This is a working board position 
  • The time commitment is approximately 1-3 hours/week 
  • Board meetings are approximately 1 hour and meetings are currently every 2 months 
  • 3 year term 
  • Looking to have this position filled by end of January 2021 

NTFT is a small organization that needs working board members to help the charity grow and get to the next level. This role is for someone who is passionate about making a difference and is able to put in the time and effort to build the charity. The Treasurer will work closely with the Board Chair, Secretary, Book keeper, Accountants, as well as the other Board members, and the Found & CEO. The Board Treasurer must be a person of great trust and integrity that can take the lead of financial management and oversight. 

Role Responsibilities 

  • Assist in developing budgets and manage the organization’s annual budget
  • Review and prepare financial reports that are accurate and timely to maintain public trust in the organization
  • Work with the NTFT Bookkeeper to keep books up to date
  • Work with the NTFT team to implement and form financial policies and procedures as well as amend and update organization documents
  • Present monthly or quarterly financial reports to board members at board meetings
  • Ensure that payroll and other liabilities are settled in a timely manner
  • Ensure that government tax filings and remittances are submitted on a timely basis
  • Serve as a co-signer of cheques if over a certain amount
  • Verify that donations are handled appropriately and that grants and service delivery contracts are accounted for in accordance with the requirements of funders
  • Assist the NTFT team with the development and presentation of the annual report
  • Recommend appointment or reappointment of auditor and work with the NTFT Bookkeeper and Auditors to submit books for annual audits
  • Help keep the board informed of important financial events, trends, and issues relevant to the organization
  • Avoid any conflicts of interest and situations that would compromise the principles or integrity of the organization
  • Be knowledgeable about the organization, the services it provides, and the communities in which it operates 
  • Raise awareness about NTFT throughout the year to friends, family, colleagues, and the community
  • Fundraise for NTFT throughout the year
  • Make a personal or business donation to NTFT

Qualifications 
  • Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in a related field, relevant experience in lieu of Postsecondary education will also be considered
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in an accounting role
  • Proven record of success in financial management and thorough understanding or reporting practices
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite: Excel, Word and Google Drive
  • Proficient with QuickBooks
  • Outgoing, inclusive, and optimistic attitude
  • Energetic, passionate, and motivated
