Who We Are

Tusarnaarniq Sivumut Association – Music for the Future (TSA) was incorporated in 2009 and created to provide Inuit youth in Nunavut the opportunity to learn music. Since then, our instructors have travelled to Nunavut regularly to conduct fiddle workshops. Built on a foundation of relationship, our program teaches youth to play fiddle (especially in communities where music programs do not exist) as a positive, creative outlet. It assists in developing leadership skills, confidence and engagement with others, and building self-esteem, which can have a positive impact on mental health. Since its inception, the program has continued to prosper and grow. As of 2019, fiddle workshops are held in the winter, spring and fall in the communities of Pond Inlet, Qikiqtarjuaq, Pangnirtung, Sanirajak, Igloolik and Kinngait. In 2016, TSA became a registered charity.
